Dear brothers and sisters,

On the second Sunday after Pentecost, the Church celebrates the Sunday of All Saints of Russia. This feast follows immediately after the Sunday of All Saints and continues its meaning.

On the first Sunday after Pentecost, the Church shows us the universal fruit of the Holy Spirit’s work: holiness in all nations, in every age, and in every corner of the earth. On the second Sunday, she turns our attention to the saints who shone forth in our Holy Russian Church: princes and princesses, hierarchs, monastics, martyrs, confessors, fools-for-Christ, righteous laypeople, and all those who bore witness to their faithfulness to Christ by their lives.

For the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, this feast has special meaning. Living far from historic Rus’, we understand with particular clarity that belonging to the Russian Church is not defined by land, politics, or outward circumstances, but by the Orthodox faith, divine worship, spiritual memory, and prayerful devotion to the saints who shone forth in the Russian land. Their lives remind us that the inheritance of the Church calls not for pride, but for responsibility: to preserve the faith, to live according to the Gospel, and to pass this spiritual treasure on to the next generations.

The saints of the Russian land remind us that Orthodoxy is life in Christ, sanctified by the grace of the Holy Spirit. This life bore fruit in the princely service of Saint Olga and Saint Vladimir, in the monastic labor of Saints Anthony and Theodosius of the Kiev Caves, in the spiritual guidance of Saints Sergius of Radonezh and Seraphim of Sarov, in the pastoral ministry of Saint John of Kronstadt, in the patient endurance of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, in the confessorship of Saint Tikhon, Patriarch of All Russia, who labored greatly on the North American continent, in the witness of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, and in the lives of countless known and unknown saints of God.

The holiness of the Russian Church was revealed in many different ways. Some saints served God in monasteries, others on episcopal thrones; some in family life, some in public service, some in poverty, exile, persecution, or martyrdom. Their paths were different, but they were all united by love for Christ, faithfulness to the Orthodox faith, and the desire to live according to the Gospel in the circumstances in which the Lord had placed them.

This feast is also addressed to us. Wherever we may live, and however far we may be from our historic homeland, we are called to preserve the Orthodox faith as the living life of the Church. We preserve this inheritance when we pray, participate in the divine services, raise our children in the faith, support parish life, and strive to live as Christians in our families, labors, and daily circumstances.

May the memory of all the saints who shone forth in the Russian land strengthen us in faith, help us preserve the spiritual inheritance of the Russian Church with gratitude and humility, and inspire us to live so that our own lives may also become a witness to the truth, love, and hope of Christ.

Во вторую Неделю по Пятидесятнице Церковь празднует память Всех святых в земле Российской просиявших. Этот праздник стоит сразу после Недели Всех святых и продолжает ее смысл.

В первую Неделю после Пятидесятницы Церковь показывает нам общий плод действия Святого Духа, святость во всех народах, во все времена, во всех концах земли. Во вторую Неделю она обращает наше внимание на тех святых, которые просияли в нашей Святой Русской Церкви: князей и княгинь, святителей, преподобных, мучеников, исповедников, юродивых Христа ради, праведных мирян и всех, кто своей жизнью засвидетельствовал верность Христу.

Для Русской Православной Церкви Заграницей этот праздник имеет особое значение. Находясь вдали от исторической Руси, мы особенно ясно понимаем, что принадлежность к Русской Церкви определяется не землей, политикой или внешними обстоятельствами, а православной верой, богослужением, духовной памятью и молитвенным обращением к святым, просиявшим в Русской земле. Их жизнь напоминает нам, что церковное наследие требует не гордости, а ответственности: хранить веру, жить по Евангелию и передавать это духовное сокровище следующим поколениям.

Святые Русской земли напоминают нам, что Православие это жизнь во Христе, освященная благодатью Святого Духа. Эта жизнь принесла плод в княжеском служении святой Ольги и святого Владимира, в монашеском подвиге преподобных Антония и Феодосия Киево-Печерских, в духовном руководстве преподобных Сергия Радонежского и Серафима Саровского, в пастырском служении святого праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского, в терпении блаженной Ксении Петербургской, в исповедничестве святителя Тихона, патриарха Всероссийского, много потрудившегося на Северо-Американском континенте, в подвиге новомучеников и исповедников Российских и в жизни множества известных и неизвестных угодников Божиих.

Святость Русской Церкви проявлялась по-разному. Одни святые служили Богу в монастырях, другие на архиерейских кафедрах, кто-то в семье, кто-то в государственном служении, кто-то в бедности, ссылке, гонениях или мученичестве. Их пути были разными, но всех их объединяли любовь ко Христу, верность Православной вере и готовность жить по Евангелию в тех обстоятельствах, в которые поставил их Господь.

Этот праздник обращен и к нам. Где бы мы ни жили и как бы далеко ни находились от своей исторической родины, мы призваны хранить православную веру как живую жизнь Церкви. Мы сохраняем это наследие тогда, когда молимся, участвуем в богослужениях, воспитываем детей в вере, поддерживаем приходскую жизнь и стараемся жить по-христиански в наших семьях, трудах и ежедневных обстоятельствах.

Пусть память всех святых, в земле Российской просиявших, укрепит нас в вере, поможет с благодарностью и смирением хранить духовное наследие Русской Церкви и вдохновит нас жить так, чтобы и наша жизнь становилась свидетельством Христовой истины, любви и надежды.
